Birthday Party Themes
The birthday party theme and entertainment you decide on should reflect your child’s unique personality. Decide on a theme they like and an entertainer that your child will feel comfortable with and be happy with. In case your child is shy, be certain that the entertainer understands that it’s not a good idea to make your little one the centre of attention. Young children sometimes may possibly be frightened by certain costumes so remember to talk with the entertainer well in advance of the birthday party and talk about any issues that you may be concerned about.
There are plenty of decorations and party supplies that go along with different themes that are available. Children love to help with their parties so be sure to get your child to help you choose the things they really want and decorate the room or party space as necessary.
Check out our Birthday Parties pages for loads of ideas for different kids birthday party themes.
Kids Birthday Party Date and Time
When you start planning your child’s birthday party, it is a really good idea to give yourself plenty of time in advance for planning and scheduling. Six to eight weeks in advance is recommended and some party planners will recommend that you start your plan three months in advance depending on your specific situation. We usually recommend that you start planning around two months prior to your set date for the birthday party.
It is really important to select the ideal time of day that you will be hosting your child’s birthday party. You don’t want to choose a time that children will be hungry at the their birthday party or in the case of a toddler’s birthday party you should try and set a party time for when your toddler isn’t sleepy.
So it’s important that you start your child’s birthday party after a meal or nap time, as this will guarantee a much happier, easier, fun birthday party for your little one.
Another factor to consider when planning a birthday party is to make sure that your child’s party isn’t too long as some children will get bored. Parties for young children can be from 1 to 1 ½ hours, and when it comes to older children you can schedule your party for about two hours.
Kid’s Birthday Party Guest List
How many kids should you have at your child’s birthday party? You really aren’t required to invite your kid’s entire class, that is if they are already attending daycare, preschool or school but if you are not sure might want to inquire what what is commonly done just to give you some idea of what to go for.
First and foremost make sure that your child fully participates in this guest list so that your child will feel comfortable with all the guest that have been invited.
Your child might only want guests of the same gender, and this is completely acceptable. It’s their party and they know what friends they want attending.
You’ll also want to make sure you ask for a RSVP from your invited guests as this will help you be better prepared when it comes to having enough food and party favors.
Send out your child’s birthday party invitations three weeks before the birthday party date and be sure to provide your contact information and detailed directions of how to get to the birthday party. Your invited guest will totally appreciate it.
Kids Birthday Party Planning
If you are planning on having your child’s birthday party at home, make you designate which area is party space and make sure you are clear on which rooms of the house you don’t want your party guests to go into. Close all doors that you want private and if need bees decorations to mark the party areas if you have to.
Be sure to put away breakables and make the “party room or area” safe for children. It’s really a good idea to have some extra helping hands around during the party, whether it be friends, relatives, or even a babysitter, this will help to make you feel more relaxed and less stressed during the birthday party.
This way you’ll be able to assign different jobs to different helpers, for example taking guests coats as they arrive and restocking food and beverages, etc. An extra set of hands and eyes is always a good idea.
Birthday Party Essentials
Be sure to have all the tools and other essentials that you might require for your birthday party well ahead of time. Don’t forget to have a first aid kit handy for those minor little bumps and bruises that come along at the party with all the fun and playing going on. Video and camera equipment should be all set up with plenty of memory space and battery life.
Another cool idea is to make up pre-made name tags for all the children you are going to be attending the birthday party especially if you are planning on a large amount of children.
Don’t forget to have loads of background kids music already for the birthday party. Music always sets the stage.
Before the birthday party begins and before your guests arrive make sure your table is set and all your party food is sliced, cut and ready to go in advance. Have cake plates read and don’t forget the candles and matches to light the candles.
Post Party
After all your guests have left and all the fun of the birthday party, you’ll need to keep your child busy so that your child doesn’t get the post birthday party blues. All that buildup of excitement with preplanning of your child’s birthday party and more than enough anticipation your child might feel a little down when all his or her friends leave for home.
If they are entertained with all their new gifts that’s great but if they aren’t, you can try to keep them entertained by looking over all the birthday party photos that you’ve uploaded to your computer, or better yet you can create a very special treasure hunt with some unopened birthday gifts you had saved prior to the birthday party. This will make your child’s day really a special day to remember.
